audio file inspector

See a file's real codec, bitrate, sample rate, bit depth and tags free, with nothing uploaded.

what is this file, really

Drop any audio file and the inspector reads its header: container and codec, sample rate, bit depth, bitrate and whether it is variable, channels, duration, the encoder that made it, and every tag from title and artist to BPM, key, ISRC and the embedded artwork. Then it decodes the audio and reports the honest numbers: the real peak level in dBFS, any DC offset, and whether a stereo file is secretly two identical mono channels.

Warnings flag the things that get releases rejected or mixes into trouble: unusual sample rates, peaks at full scale, files that are far too quiet, and low bitrates. Drop a whole folder and export the lot as a CSV.

common questions

how do I check the sample rate and bit depth of a wav?

Drop it in. Sample rate and bit depth are read straight from the header and shown as chips at the top, with the codec and channel count next to them.

is this 24-bit file really 24-bit?

The header says what the file is stored as. To know what it was made from, use the audio quality checker, which looks at the spectrum instead of the label.

can I see the ISRC and BPM in a file?

Yes, when the file carries them. ISRC, BPM, key, composer, label, copyright and comments all show under the tags when present.
