metronome
A free online metronome from 40 to 240 BPM with tap tempo and four sounds.
about this online metronome
A free metronome that runs in your browser from 40 to 240 bpm, with click, beep, cowbell and hat sounds, 2 to 7 beats per bar and an accented downbeat. Set the tempo with the slider, type it, or tap it in.
The clicks are scheduled on the audio hardware clock rather than a javascript timer, so the beat stays steady even when the tab is busy.
common questions
why does the beat stay steady even when my browser is busy?
The clicks are scheduled ahead of time on the audio hardware clock instead of a javascript timer, the same technique DAWs use, so a busy tab cannot make the click drift.
what tempo should I practice at?
Start slow enough to play the passage cleanly, often 60 to 80 percent of the target tempo, then raise the bpm in small steps. Accuracy first, speed second.
can I set the tempo by ear?
Yes. Hit Tap tempo in time with the song or the pulse in your head and the metronome picks up your speed, or type an exact bpm into the big number.
