midi keyboard tester

Test a MIDI keyboard or controller in your browser: notes, velocity, knobs and pitch bend, live.

test your midi keyboard or controller

Plug it in, press keys, and see every note, velocity, knob and wheel your device sends, with sound so you can hear it working.

find out if the problem is the keyboard or the daw

Half of all "midi keyboard not working" problems are DAW routing, not hardware. This tester answers the hardware half in seconds: held notes light up on a piano, velocity and channel show for every press, knobs and wheels stream into labeled meters, and a raw event log shows exactly what the device sends. If it works here, your keyboard is fine and the fix is in your DAW's MIDI settings.

Devices hot-plug: connect one while the page is open and it appears. Nothing is installed and nothing leaves your machine.

common questions

my midi keyboard is not working, how do I check it?

Plug it in, start the test and press a key. If a note lights up on the piano and appears in the log, the keyboard and its connection are fine, and the problem is in your DAW's settings. If nothing appears, try another cable or USB port, and check the device shows up in the device list.

why does my controller play no sound in this test?

MIDI is not audio, it is instructions. This page includes a small synth so you can hear keys as you press them; in your DAW you need an instrument loaded on the track and the track record-armed or input-monitored.

which browsers support midi?

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera all support Web MIDI. Safari does not, on Mac or iPhone, so use one of the others for this test.

does it show knobs and wheels too?

Yes. Control changes appear with their names where standard (mod wheel, sustain, cutoff), pitch bend has its own meter, and the raw event log shows everything the device sends, including channel numbers.
