noise reduction

Remove background noise from voice memos, podcasts and vocals free, right in your browser.

how noise reduction actually works, and how to not overdo it

The tool listens to a second of pure noise, the quietest moment in the file or a region you drag, and learns its fingerprint across the whole spectrum. Then it goes through the recording and turns down every frequency band that never rises above that fingerprint, while leaving the bands your voice is using alone. Smoothing across frequency and a slow release are what keep it from sounding underwater.

The strength slider is how far the noise drops, sensitivity is how close to the noise something has to be before it counts as noise, and smoothing trades a little precision for a more natural sound. The honest check is the removed-only button: if you hear words in it, the tool is eating your voice and the strength should come down. Presets cover voice, gentle for music, and heavy for hum and fans.

common questions

how do I remove background noise from a recording?

Drop the file in, let it pick the quietest second as the noise print or drag over a part that is only noise, press apply and compare before and after. Start with the voice preset; raise strength only until the noise is gone, not further.

will it remove a fan or hum?

Steady noise is exactly what this method handles: hiss, hum, fans, air conditioning, computer whine. It cannot remove things that change, like traffic, other people talking, or music behind a voice.

why does the result sound underwater?

Too much strength or sensitivity with too little smoothing. Lower the strength, raise smoothing to two or three, and check the removed-only preview: it should contain no voice.

is my recording uploaded?

No. The whole process runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
