how do I record vocals over a beat online?
Open the mic, drop your instrumental into the backing track slot and put on headphones. Press record: the beat starts playing in your headphones and the take is captured in sync. Afterwards, play the take with the beat, nudge the timing if it sounds late, and download the vocal on its own or mixed with the beat.
why does my vocal sound slightly late against the beat?
Every device adds a little delay between playing the beat and capturing your voice, from a few milliseconds on a desktop with an interface to over a hundred on some phones. The vocal timing slider fixes it: move it right until the take sits on the beat. It applies to playback and to the mixed download.
is the recording lossless?
Yes. The mic signal is captured as raw samples at your device's rate, not compressed on the way in, and the wav download is exactly that. Choose mp3 for a smaller 320 kbps file. Voice cleanup is off by default because echo cancellation and noise suppression damage singing; turn it on for speech memos.
does it work on my phone?
Yes, on iPhone and Android in Safari or Chrome, with nothing to install. Use headphones, wired or Bluetooth, if you are recording over a beat, so it does not bleed into the mic. Keep the tab in the foreground while recording.
is anything uploaded?
No. Recording, playback and mixing all happen in your browser. Takes live in memory until you download them or close the page, and nothing is sent anywhere.
